What it is:
As a content area, social studies offers students a place to develop critical thinking skill, gain empathy, and better understand the world around them. In order to access the content, however, students must feel comfortable, welcome, and successful in their instructional setting.
In this session, we’ll discuss instructional strategies and linguistic accommodations designed to shelter instruction so that all students can participate and contribute within their learning community. These tips are designed to maximize engagement and build academic vocabulary simultaneously.
Who Should Attend:
- Teachers of Els, bilingual learners, and English-only learners
- ESL teachers
- Campus and district administrators
- Instructional coaches and specialists
- District social studies and ESL coordinators
